How Long Does Celebrant Training Take?
One of the first questions you might ask when considering celebrant training is “How long does celebrant training take?” It is only natural to wonder how long it will be until you can set yourself up as a professionally trained celebrant. On the horizon is an amazing career/vocation working with and for people to create meaningful ways to honour the rites of passage of the human experience.
Each celebrant training school/organisation is different. Those where you’re offered a certificate for ‘turning up’ will give you a certificate after 1.5 days. That’s it! This is based on attendance. Although this is perfect for the impatient person who wants a ‘quick glimpse into celebrancy’ it is NOT the recommended path for those who wish to offer excellence, professionalism and attention to detail.
At Heart-led Ceremonies, we take the role of a celebrant seriously and our training reflects this. We make no apologies for this. Our clients get one chance to have the right ceremony, and our job is to offer excellence.
Our certificates are based on aptitude not attendance. This means that the celebrant-in-training has to put in the required work to demonstrate that: they have what it takes to work with people from all walks of life, are able to create ceremonies for all belief systems, are discrimination-free, show creative flair, display dedication and discipline, can meet deadlines, understand the reality of working with grieving families, and so on.
We offer two courses: the Certificate in Celebrancy (which covers funerals, memorials, interment of ashes, weddings, handfastings, and namings) and the Certificate in Advance Celebrancy and Ritual (which covers all rites of passage).
The Certificate in Celebrancy involves an initial three x three-hour private tutoring sessions on Zoom, and three days of independent learning and script writing. This is followed by EIGHT WEEKS of independent learning and working on celebrant portfolio modules in their own time; and five one-to-one vocal and performance coaching sessions.
Upon successful completion of this work, the celebrant-in-training will be awarded a certificate. However, this is the foundation work. We offer ongoing mentoring, script appraisal, monthly group CPD sessions and support.
The Certificate in Advanced Celebrancy and Ritual involves an initial five days x three-hour tutoring sessions on Zoom, and five days of independent learning and script writing. This is followed by TWELVE WEEKS of independent learning and working on celebrant portfolios (in your own time), five one-to-one vocal and performance coaching sessions.
Upon successful completion of this work, they will be awarded a certificate. However, this is the foundation work. We offer ongoing mentoring, script appraisal, monthly group CPD sessions and support. They will also have FIVE masterclasses with tutor Veronika Robinson (who has been a celebrant for 26 years), as well as any other ongoing mentoring as desired.
We consider Heart-led Celebrancy to be a life-long learning experience. Once you are working as a celebrant, you are learning from each and every experience you have. With our training, you can be guaranteed that as a professional celebrant you will have our support seven days a week as you walk the path of celebrancy.
