& Code of Conduct

The role of a Heart-led Celebrant is to be of service to their community through the creating, writing and officiating of bespoke, accurate and reverent ceremonies.

Personal Development
You will honour the need for ongoing personal development, and actively create time for Sacred Study and safeguard your Protected Learning Time so that you bring only the best of yourself to the work of a celebrant.
Daily care of mind, body and soul is essential in this line of work.

Natural Leadership
You are NOT the centre of attention. Your role is to offer gentle leadership.
You are energy aware, and adapt your manner as necessary.
You are engaging when you officiate your ceremonies, making sure to vary your intonation and pace as suited to your storytelling.
You are calmly reassuring no matter what external events may be taking place.
You are clear and articulate.
Sacred Connections
You are invested in the relationships you have with your clients.
You give as much time as your client needs yet know how to create a healthy and harmonious boundary (if necessary).
You are non-judgmental in your approach. Acceptance is a core value of a Heart-led Celebrant.
You create high-level trust through your sensitivity and confidentiality.
You will honour the beliefs and values of your client at all times. If you are unable to do so, please find another celebrant for your client.
Bespoke Ceremonies
You create, write and officiate bespoke ceremonies which have been crafted by your dedicated care to your client. If your script does not engage you, it will not engage others. Your role is to ‘be at one’ with the script you create.
You recognise that the ceremony is created based on what is meaningful to your client.
You are constantly increasing your own knowledge around other cultural beliefs, music and literature so that your resources are vast.
Every ceremony you write is well structured, and based on disciplined writing and awareness of appropriate ritual choreography.
Your knowledge of ritual should ensure you match your client’s needs suitably.

Professional
You are dressed suitably, and are clean, hygienic and well groomed.
You answer your phone and email professionally at all times. Ensure you always open your email with the client’s name (spelled correctly), and end the communication with your name.

You have Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance.
The scripts that you create for clients (both by email and the paper copy offered as a keepsake) are of the highest professional standard, in terms of effective communication, creativity, layout, attention to grammar and spelling, etc.
You are GDPR compliant. You must register your self-employed business with the ICO.
Do NOT double book clients. If you commit to a date, then your job is to honour that. If you don’t resonate with a client, then pass them on at the outset. Don’t wait for a better offer to come along.
Every time you stand up as a celebrant, you are representing ALL celebrants.
Do your best. Be your best.
Heal. Inspire. Celebrate.
